All Bodies Are Good Bodies

ABOUT

Hej, I’m Emmet, welcome to my website! Through YESbodies, I strive to promote wellness for all bodies and identities from the perspective that there is no one true way to be healthy or look/feel fit. I am from Sweden and have been in the US in Oakland CA, for 12 years.

What I do
I support people in their efforts toward feeling good, embodied, and strong. To be more technical, I am a Corrective Exercise Specialist, Personal Trainer, and Nutrition Coach (through National Academy of Sports Medicine), as well as a Kettlebell Coach, and some other things listed below. I offer in-person and virtual personal training and fitness classes. I am passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ community and generally anyone who feels alienated by non-inclusive gym spaces. I am especially available to gender expansive community who seek support towards improved wellness and mind-body alignment.

Why I Do It
All bodies are good bodies. Healthy and fit bodies come in many shapes and sizes. Those simple truths are sadly considered a radical idea in many fitness/wellness spaces. We should all be able to feel good about ourselves, and to truly thrive we need access to professionals and spaces free from hostility, oppression and judgement.
Physical activity can be an empowering means of self-care and a solid source of fun – and I am here to support you in experiencing all of it!

Emmet has always been supportive of my experience as a queer trans person of color who has undergone top surgery. They’ve incorporated movement that helped me release a lot of chest tension I’ve carried for years. Emmet creates workouts that are engaging and challenging while also saving space to take care of my body.

Jones

I came to Emmet with chronic back, shoulder, and neck pain. Never thought I would be doing deadlifts, especially as a femme-identified person who was made to believe that weightlifting wasn’t for me. To my surprise, weightlifting became an empowering tool that allowed me to love myself and my body more deeply.

Lianne

In training with Emmet I have increased both my bench press and deadlift PRs! They have helped me so much with my shoulder mobility. I feel stronger and more stable than I have in a long time. They took the time to understand the nuances of my goals as they relate to my gender presentation.

Sandy

Emmet meets me where I am emotionally, physically and mentally. They encourage both pushing perceived limits and learning where to find more time for care. The awareness, attention and mindfulness they bring to every situation is quite moving. I am so grateful to have built more agility, strength, and confidence with Emmet.

Aden

I’ve been working with Emmet since I had a debilitating knee injury. I was always hesitant to pursue personal training or even be in a gym as a plus-sized woman, but Emmet has completely transformed my comfort level with exercise and my body. I have learned so much and am stronger than I have ever been.

Mary

I was drastically changing my lifestyle in preparation for a surgery that was 6 months away. Emmet gave me the building blocks that I needed to be able to take myself to the next level. I now live an extremely active lifestyle, pain-free.

Nick

Emmet has challenged me and been there for the journey. After moving to virtual training, I still get the same support and feedback, and they work with the tools I have at home. Emmet makes exercise fun, helps me see my strength, and meets me where I’m at.

Ángel

Emmet invests in more than just a workout with you, I feel that they help adjust you into a more positive and healthy person. The workouts will be hard, but never enough to scare you away from the future workouts! I saw drastic changes in my strength, mobility, and endurance within a few months.

Tara

When I work out with Emmet, I always seem to finish our session with more confidence than I started.  They have a great way of meeting me where I’m at, and finding a balance between pushing me and being supportive.

WORK WITH ME

Consultation for Personal Training
Schedule a free 30min consultation
We’ll chat about what you’re looking for, address any questions you have, and go over my approach to training to give you a good idea of what working together could look like. From there, we decide on what’s next!

Private Training
Intake session $175, 75min
60min $100-150
(I believe money shouldn’t be a limiting factor in accessing health/fitness services, so I offer a sliding scale)
My approach could be summarized as “keep it sustainable, do what’s available” and is centered around building and maintaining a strong functional foundation to help you feel good in your body for life. My main services are powerlifting, kettlebell training, strength and conditioning, functional training, corrective exercise, training while navigating injury/pain, core stability and strength, glute development, and mind-body alignment. I place a strong emphasis on identifying and addressing muscle imbalances, and minimizing risk for injuries, in other words prehab over rehab. I also offer support with how to prepare and take care of yourself before, during, and after surgery.

Semi-Private Training (2-3 ppl)
Individual intake session $175, 75min
60 minute session, $150 (split between participants)
Before forming or joining a group, each participant must first have done an individual intake session. This format offers more personal attention than a regular class setting and the training is tailored to individual and shared needs of the participants. Aside from the financial benefit of sharing cost, this is a great way to add a more social aspect to your training, where you can have fun with your workout buddies and cheer each other on as you work side by side toward your goals.

Online
The session takes place on a platform that we agree on (typically Zoom). You position your device so that I can see you moving relevant to the exercises we’re doing. Your workouts can include equipment you have available to you, and I can also share ways to creatively make use of household items/furniture for your training. I can play music, or you can, or we leave music out of it. I demonstrate every exercise (and provide reminders for the ones you might know but want/need cues for); you try it out and I check your form and provide feedback to make sure you’re moving as safely as possible. If something doesn’t feel good, we explore a different way of doing it or swap the exercise for something else. Online training has an unbeatable commute and offers a bit more flexibility as far as scheduling.

Outdoors
Typically takes place at an accessible park or outdoor area that is not crowded and offers restroom/facilities, has shade options, good surfaces to stand/sit on, lean against and lay down on. We might utilize the features of the outdoor space or I/you might bring portable equipment, depending on what’s needed for the session.

Programming
Offered to current clients only
Want to do your own thing but not really sure how to plan your workouts? I got you covered.
BASIC:  Your program will help keep you on track toward reaching your goals and also include some general “prehab” exercise options to keep your body as happy as possible in the process. Training will be set up in a way that avoids overuse of the same muscles, joints and ligaments.
TAILORED:  Your program will help you reach your goals in the most efficient/realistic way possible as it is specifically tailored to your individual needs and circumstances, for example requiring a specific corrective exercise plan to address an injury or muscle imbalances. This is also where the “keep it sustainable, do what’s available” really comes into play as your program can include options for when certain parts of your body are not having a good day or you feel low energy, but you still want to move your body for reasons like mental health etc. All based on what will work best for you.

Nutrition Coaching
Schedule a free 30min consultation
Intake $150, 60min
Monthly $400, Nutrition program + 4 x 30min weekly check-ins, accountability text and email support

As a Nutrition Coach, I provide non-medical nutrition support and mentorship regarding food and drink. I can educate you on the science behind nutrition, how food affects the body, and the benefits of eating certain foods. I can teach you how to read food labels and make informed choices about the diet you decide to keep. Sometimes, you can create the progress you want on your own. Other times, a coach can be that piece of the puzzle you are missing when you’re not quite achieving what you want to achieve. Some things I can help you with are

  • Separating nutrition fact from fiction (including poking holes in fat-phobic myths)
  • Guidance on gender-affirming body composition goals
  • Determining your fuel intake needs based on your goals
  • Figuring out your macros (what carb/fat/protein splits work well for you)
  • Learning how to fuel your body so you have the energy to match your activities
  • Providing actionable, proven methods for you to reach your nutrition goals
  • Supplying a safe and comprehensive nutrition program that includes gradual sustainable changes
  • Establishing routines and creating long term habits
  • Troubleshooting day-to-day challenges
  • Understanding food labels
  • Advising you on nutrients that are known to reduce the risk of disease or slow disease progression

Nutrition coaching is centered around education and behavioral change. It is not a medial service, which means I do not prescribe specific meal plans, recommend or prescribe supplements, or treat disease

The TGNC Fam online class is amazing. I can safely participate in the comfort of my own space, with others who are also trans/gnc, various body types, ages, and without the potential judgement and glares from strangers. It has been an amazing experience for me, a lifeline even. Something I look forward to every week.

MC

Motivating and accommodating to folx’ differing needs without judgment is really the only way I want to experience group training ever again. Honestly one of the safest training environments I’ve been a part of.

Carla

The TGNC Fam class with Emmet is one of the best parts of my week. They know how to keep people engaged, even my ADHD brain! They always give different options for movements for all types of bodies and comfort levels and they make it easy to ask questions or get feedback.

Camille

Working on my health and wellness with Emmet has been transforming. They introduce many modified movements, but also welcome me to try different levels. I love that I can come as I am into the space, and that I don’t have to explain gender or identity. I feel especially safe in the TGNC Fam program.

JJ

Emmet is a sweet, mindful coach and teacher. They are knowledgeable about the body and how it works and in classes they have consistently offered modifications for my injuries.

TGNC Fam 1, Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 5pm PT
Next cycle: 2/27-4/18, 2024 – Register TGNC Fam 1
All levels of experience welcome, equipment is optional.
You can do this one indefinitely and focus on breath, mind-muscle connection, foundational movement, stability, and strength and conditioning. Extra challenges are given that you can opt into. Priority is given to connecting with self and exploring your limits and boundaries with agency and curiosity (vs steamrolling yourself, as is often the case in many fitness/movement spaces).

TGNC Fam 2, Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 6pm PT
Next cycle: 2/27-4/18, 2024 – Register TGNC Fam 2
To sign up, you must first have done at least one cycle of TGNC Fam 1.
Equipment-based, you’ll need access to some free weights (diy or bought).
For those who have a pretty good understanding of their current strengths and limits, and who want to be pushed more. Think hypertrophy, strength training/powerlifting, kettlebell flow, HIIT.
The default is challenges and you opt out when needed.
To get the most out of this it will be important to fuel your body to have enough energy to perform and recover well.
